Soft mattress is one of the most effective components that are most usually used in protective structure of waterproof erosion. Soft mattress is covered to the places where water flows to reduce the impact energy of water flow and protect soil particles from being flown away by water flow by means of its filter function, thus, ensuring the stability of soil mass.

Soft mattress can be divided into monolithic mattress, biplate mattress and foot mattress, etc, and there are also various types of soft mattress with and without fillings, which are separately covered to riverbed or bank slope surface where washing may probably occur, thus riverbed or bank slope soil mass is separated from water floe to avoid washing. Place riprap, precasted concrete block or interlocking blocks in soft mattress as pressure weight, to protect soft mattress from being floated up or moves by water flow.
